Polymyalgia Rheumatica is a cause of new onset of shoulder pain in patients over the age of 50. Here are important points about this condition:

1. Rather sudden onset of shoulder pain. Most patients indicate a clear onset of new shoulder pain they never experienced before.
2. Usually over the age of 50. It can also be seen as low as age 40.
3. Pain in one shoulder and then would go to other shoulder
4. Shoulder pain that is usually a lot worse at night but gets better during the day.
5. Pain that often is severe enough that they seek medical attention.
