Double Stranded DNA
Anti-dsDNA are antibodies to double-stranded DNA that:
– are very specific for systemic lupus.
– are not as sensitive for systemic lupus.
– have titers which can vary with disease activity and can be monitored for response to therapy.
– have significant association with lupus nephritis in setting of low complements.
– have no association with CNS lupus.
– can help distinguish other causes of positive ANA.
The dsDNA antibodies are also seen in:
– Normal indviduals
– Juvenile arthritis
– Rheumatoid arthritis
– Autoimmune hepatitis
– Drug-induced lupus
