Prescribing Medications (If Regulations Permit)

Prescribing medication is a duty of physicians assistants based on regulations. Before you prescribe any medication, check your local or state regulations as to whether or not you are permitted to do so.

If permitted, this duty entails the following:

  • Writing and authorizing prescription medication for patient treatment
  • Verifying prescription refills and medical history in order for the patient to receive prescriptions
  • Disclosing information with the pharmacist/pharmacy technician in a positive and professional manner in order to ensure an efficient process for the patient to receive their medications
