Aspirin
Important points about Aspirin are:
1. Although once heavily used to treat arthritis pain, it is no longer being used as much because of efficacy and potential short and long term side-effects.
2. It should not be used in patients with Sarcoidosis, G6PD deficiency, hemorrhoids, lactating mothers, children with viral Illness, ulcerative colitis, thrombocytopenia, and asthma associated with nasal polyps, and taking mifepristone among others.
3. The usual dose is 3 grams per day in divided doses for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis but higher for spondyloarthropathy up to five gram per day.
3. It is best used in the enteric coated form as to avoid GI side-effects
4. Stop if tinnitus occurs.
5. Monitor levels if used chronically.
